This is the story of Barbara Chapin Williams.  Growing up in very comfortable circumstances, her dream of bringing art and culture to the people is intertwined with the personal story of her life. The Carnival Caravan, her first creation and The Artmobile a second endeavor that she worked on, both enjoyed some success, but ultimately neither effort established a long-term presence. In retrospect, both may be seen as having been important pioneering efforts.

After those productive decades, at the age of 46, she married composer Glenn Williams. Glenn was, in Barbara’s own words, often too eager to take offense and so, while she adored him, this seems to have contributed to a couple of decades of traveling and largely living abroad.

And so, here is her story—often in her own words, supplemented by many photographs, her charming drawings and the brochures she produced to further the ambitious goals she had.
